Leeds United: Conor McGilligan expresses concern over Luis Sinisterra injury

Journalist and YouTuber Conor McGilligan has expressed his concern over the fitness of recent Leeds United signing Luis Sinisterra following his recent injury.

The Colombian winger signed for the Whites earlier in the summer, joining from Feyenoord for a fee reported to be in the region of £21m.

However, when making his first start for the club, he picked up an injury and had to be brought off early.

Although Sinisterra’s current issue is believed to be just a ‘little hamstring injury’ in the words of his manager Jesse Marsch, McGilligan has still outlined his concerns that no further clarification has come since.

When speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, he said: “The worrying aspect of Sinisterra is because he was out for a year at Feyenoord which really halted his progress, and for some reason that’s just sticking out in my mind at the minute.

“Of course, I’m not thinking it is going to be that drastic whatsoever with regards to his injury, but there is no news on that, there is no update on that.

“We know he’s going to miss the Cagliari game. If it is indeed a hamstring injury, there is no chance he’s going to be playing against Wolves, then we’ve got Southampton, then we’ve got Chelsea in very, very quick succession – all in less than two weeks.”

TIF Thoughts on Luis Sinisterra and Leeds…

The past injury McGilligan refers to is a cruciate ligament rupture Sinisterra suffered back in 2020 that kept him out of action for 297 days (via Transfermarkt).

Since then, however, his fitness has been pretty good, albeit with a couple of issues that saw him sidelined for brief periods last season while still with Feyenoord.

Even so, having picked up a fresh injury straight away in a Leeds shirt, it’s easy to see why McGilligan may be feeling a little nervous about the health of their new signing.

As things stand, it does look as though Sinisterra is a doubt for the opening few weeks of the Premier League season, but if it is just a ‘little hamstring injury’, perhaps he can return sooner than anticipated.
