Journalist Dean Jones has spoken to This Is Futbol and claimed that Leeds United should attempt to sign Ben Foster this season.

There were reports back in April stating that Ben Forster had been linked with a move to Leeds United in the summer, and recent reports have suggested that the Whites have continued their interest in Foster over a potential move to Elland Road to provide competition for Illan Meslier.

Foster was largely the first-choice goalkeeper last season for Watford in the Premier League when they were disappointingly relegated to the Championship, but he is now a free agent as there has been no sign of a contract renewal for him.

With Foster being a free agent this summer, Jones spoke to This Is Futbol and claimed that Leeds United should attempt to sign the former England international.

He said: “I think Ben Foster’s one of the most interesting names on the market right now. He’s a very good goalkeeper to bring in – not just in terms of what he can do in goal, but like his personality, social media; whatever angle you want to look at it from, he’s a massive get in this market, so I think they should be looking down that path.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’s comments…

Jesse Marsch has already acquired three new signings this summer, and a backup goalkeeper might be the next position on his wishlist, so with Foster becoming available, after not renewing a contract at Watford, he could be a good option for Leeds due to him being a free transfer.

Foster has also proven that despite being 39 years old, he can still play consistently at the highest level after he made 26 appearances in the Premier League last season for the Hornets, so if Meslier was out of form, he could come in and do a job.
