Journalist Ryan Taylor has revealed that Everton’s interest in Harry Winks has cooled with the club now ‘pursuing alternative targets’.

Earlier on in the summer, it looked as though the Toffees were very keen on signing the Englishman, with Football Insider saying contact had already been made ahead of a possible switch.

However, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder may no longer be the club’s priority, with Everton said to be exploring other options, having put this particular deal on the ‘backseat’ for now.

Taylor recently outlined what he know on the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin YouTube channel, saying (55:02): “Everton approached Tottenham about a permanent deal to sign him [Winks]. There was also loose talks about the prospect of him being included in the Richarlison deal.

“But at the moment, it looks like Everton have kind of taken a backseat and they’re looking at pursuing alternative targets. I think the kind of figures that Tottenham were looking for initially were sort of within the region of 25 million pounds.

“I think now there’s an acceptance that sort of £20m or close to that figure would be an acceptable offer.”

TIF thoughts on Harry Winks and Everton…

Judging from what Taylor says, Tottenham seem pretty keen to offload the player if they have indeed lowered their initial asking price of £25m by around £5m.

This may well encourage Everton to dwell on the deal a little longer, perhaps pressuring Spurs to drop the possible fee for an even lower fee.

Winks has plenty of Premier League and European experience, as well as time spent on the international stage with England – so he could well be a target worth coming back in for.

However, considering the Toffees have just sold Richarlison for about £60m, they may well feel as though they can now push for a signing that would see an even better player arrive this summer.
