TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook believes that Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers’ future could be in doubt as he is not being given the money needed to rebuild his ageing squad.

So far this summer Leicester are struggling with no signings coming through the door yet and two of their biggest stars Youri Tielemans and James Maddison have both been linked with moves away from the club.

While Leicester may need to sell a star in order to bring in further additions to the squad – as they did with Harry Maguire, Riyad Mahrez, and N’Golo Kante – not making these moves early is hindering their chances next season and could lead to a change of management, according to Crook.

The presenter believes that Rodgers could look to move on from the Foxes if they do not back him in the transfer market and wonders if the manager he has taken the former Premier League champions as far as he can.

When asked if the lack of transfer backing could leave Rodgers’ doubting the support of his board, Crook told talkSPORT: “I think it does in some ways. And I think he must be contemplating privately have I taken this team as far as I can?

“Because obviously, two seasons ago, they missed out on a place in the Champions League on the last day of the season. Despite having been in the top four pretty much the whole campaign.

“He’s won the FA Cup, which is a big landmark moment for Leicester. They never won that trophy before, been beaten in a couple of finals.

“But without backing financially, and as Trevor [Sinclair] mentioned they’re some of the players that are coming to the end of their contracts and coming to the end of their careers in fairness as well. You know, Jamie Vardy and Kasper Schmeichel aren’t getting any younger. Realistically how, without a pot of cash to spend in the market, can Brendan Rodgers kick this team on?”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Last season Leicester took a huge step back in their development under Rodgers, failing to put any pressure on the top six and a European spot while only securing their top-ten status on the last day of the season.

After making impressive moves in past transfer markets with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Mahrez, and Kante, they failed to replicate this last summer with the additions of Ryan Bertrand and Jannik Vestergaard who both failed to make over 10 Premier League appearances for the club last season.

Rodgers will want to keep improving the squad but the only big incoming linked at the time of writing is Celtic’s Matt O’Riley while he is a good player it won’t necessarily fill Rodgers and fans with hope that it can push them back into the top six.

If they fail to secure this deal and more before the end of the season, it wouldn’t be that surprising if Rodgers leaves.

Will Rodgers leaves Leicester?
