Dan Cook has been speaking on the HLTCO podcast about the rumoured Crystal Palace target, Levi Colwill.

The host was speaking on Chelsea’s talented young academy product Colwill and whether he’d be joining Patrick Vieira’s exciting crop of players at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles completed their first capture of the summer over the weekend, landing Derby County’s incredibly gifted young teenager 18-year-old winger Malcolm Ebiowei and they have also agreed a deal to bring West Bromwich Albion shot-stopper Sam Johnstone to South London ahead of his contract expiring in the coming days.

The 19-year-old Chelsea wonderkid, Colwill, enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season at Huddersfield Town last term and has returned to Stamford Bridge with his immediate future up in the air.

Palace are said to be one of four clubs interested in taking the defender on a permanent deal, and due to the Eagles’ long-standing transfer relationship with Chelsea, it is a move that may appeal to both the player and the Blues.

However, Cook has his doubts as to whether the move could materialise this summer:

“I doubt we would have the funds to push through a permanent deal for Levi Colwill alongside the rumoured £20m-odd that we will be spending on Cheick Doucoure. So, there are a number of different factors to take into account there but it’s certainly good to see that we are once again being with a potential move for a fantastic young player in Levi Colwill.”

TIF thoughts on Colwill…

With Vieira reportedly looking to move towards a three at the back system at Selhurst Park next season, snapping up the services of Colwill will have represented a sensational piece of business for the long-term future of the player and the Eagles.

The club are clearly pleased by their capture of Guehi from Stamford Bridge and want to continue that trend by snapping up the Southampton-born ace who enjoyed a tremendous year at Huddersfield last campaign.

With Vieira building the foundations for an exciting, sustainable and prosperous future through his fresh transfer approach, the addition of the £4.5m-rated colossus, dubbed  “the new John Terry” certainly fits the bill.

But as Cook stated, it is unclear whether Palace will have the funds to complete a deal with Chelsea looking to gain a sizeable feel for the talented defender. However, a loan-move may appeal to both parties and we believe it is a deal Palace should be strongly pursuing.
