Journalist Jonny McFarlane has provided an update behind Rangers’ ongoing pursuit of Antonio Colak.

The Rangers Review writer was speaking on the site’s YouTube channel amid persistent speculation linking the PAOK striker with a move to Ibrox.

The Daily Record claimed that the Croatian was keen on a move to Glasgow but wouldn’t waiver from their £2.6m asking price however as McFarlane rightly pointed out in Tuesday’s briefing (3:09), the Gers appear to have to a compromise of the transfer fee.

However, he has now revealed that there is a complication at the other end with the Greek club seemingly holding off on sanctioning a transfer just yet.

Do Rangers need another striker?

(2:24)”It is my understanding that Rangers have agreed a deal with PAOK regarding the player’s future. Fee of around £1.8m and the player has agreed to come to Ibrox.

“The player is really, really keen to come and has requested that the transfer be dealt with as quickly as possible.

“However, nothing has been signed off as yet. There is a hold-up at the PAOK end despite there being an agreement in place. It is being described to me as bizarre given that all the boxes are ticked and really only PAOK can explain what the situation is.

“It seems to me what is likely is that they are looking to get in a replacement.

“So we will see how this pans out.”

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

While it will be frustrating for Ross Wilson and his recruitment team, confidence must surely be growing that a deal can be struck between both parties.

They should be very happy with the seemingly economical fee that they have agreed as well.

The three-cap Croatia ace has gone from stride to stride in recent seasons although the 28-year-old couldn’t get going in Greece.

He did however score 51 goals and provide 15 assists in 90 appearances in his home country at HNK Rijeka to earn the move to Salonika and while out on loan at Malmo last season he averaged near enough a goal every two games, scoring five in the Champions League qualifiers including twice against the Light Blues.

Former Malmo ace Daniel Larsson told the Daily Record ‘he’s been a late developer’ and would be a ‘huge success’ in Glasgow suggesting that getting this one over the line would be advisable.
