Daily Record writer Mark Guidi has revealed that he will be “absolutely astonished” if Allan McGregor doesn’t sign a contract extension at Rangers.
McGregor turned 40 in January and saw his contract expire at the end of May, with no clarity yet on his future.
He took to the field in a Rangers shirt for the 446th time against Hearts in the Scottish Cup final, coming on as a substitute in the final minute of extra time in what looked to be a farewell showing having been a prominent member of the side that made it all the way to the Europa League final this term.
The four-time Scottish Premiership winner has enjoyed two spells at Ibrox, initially between 2001 and 2012 before returning in 2018. And even after 204 clean sheets in Glasgow, Guidi will be stunned if he doesn’t carry on.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, he said: “I don’t think he’s ready to give that up. He’s got far too much to offer as a goalkeeper. I’d be absolutely astonished if he does not sign a new one-year deal with Rangers.”

While Connor Goldson has committed to a four-year deal, McGregor could join fellow veteran Steven Davis in extending for the short term.
Despite rumours of the Gers being linked with Bosnian goalkeeper Vladan Kovacevic, their current No 1 has shown no signs of slowing down and was praised as “outstanding” in March on BT Sport by Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes after a huge penalty save against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League last 16.
The stalwart’s experience and performances in key moments will be hard to replace, and if McGregor is willing to sign an extension, they could well accept and perhaps bring in an understudy for McGregor’s last hurrah at Ibrox.
