Ben Jacobs has revealed the interesting reason why Frenkie de Jong doesn’t want to join Manchester United on The Done Deal Show.

It has been an interesting few days in the saga involving Barcelona’s De Jong and Man United, who are said to be interested in the midfielder – with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag wanting to work with the midfielder once again despite De Jong saying he wishes to stay in Spain, while Sky Sports is reporting United have held talks to sign him.

De Jong would be a superb addition for Man United given the level he’s played at most recently compared to the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred, however, he has been pretty adamant that he doesn’t wish to leave Catalonia and is desperate to play Champions League football next season.

However, Jacobs believes there is another big reason why De Jong doesn’t want to leave Barcelona and join Man United.

He said: “When a player like De Jong speaks out about his future, it’s probably because a club like Manchester United had got quite far along, but past tense. I kind of am inclined, talking to people around De Jong and Barcelona, to believe his interview statement that he would prefer to stay at Barcelona.

Should De Jong join Man United?

“One of the main reasons for that is because he’s bought a new multimillion-pound house there, which is not exactly the kind of move you do if you think you’re about to go to Manchester.”

TIF Thoughts on De Jong to Man United…

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Man United are indeed in talks with Barcelona over the signing of De Jong, with the La Liga side needing to move on some players to help them financially this summer, although if De Jong doesn’t see a positive future at Old Trafford, it’s unlikely he’ll make the move.

Having Ten Hag at the helm will have given Man United hope and a slight chance of landing the Dutchman given they worked together at Ajax, however, considering the midfielder’s clear reluctance to move, it would perhaps be smart for the Red Devils to not force him into making a switch and instead bring someone in who’s willing to play for the badge and wants to prove themselves.
