Journalist Jacque Talbot has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are the most likely club to win the race for Djed Spence over the next few months.
Tottenham are reportedly Djed Spence’s first choice this summer in regard to a transfer away from Middlesbrough. But the north London side face competition from the likes of Roma and Newcastle United, who are also keen on the young wing-back.
Spence spent last season on loan with Nottingham Forest, and the 21-year-old was a mainstay in the Reds’ side after he made 46 appearances in all competitions and played a massive part in their promotion to the Premier League.
Despite gaining promotion to the top flight with Forest last season, Talbot has claimed to GiveMeSport that Spurs remain the frontrunners in the race to sign Spence.
He said: “From what I hear, he will be sold by Middlesbrough in this window, that’s for definite, and it’ll either be Nottingham Forest, who he loves and his family and friends love, or he’ll go to Spurs because they’re attractive and have Champions League football, and Tottenham are the most likely to sign Spence at the moment.”

TIF Thoughts on Talbot’s comments…
Spence was vital for Forest last season in the Championship in their promotion-winning campaign, as he was named in the Championship Team of the Season for his impressive performances throughout the year.
Spurs have Champions League football to contend with next season after they had an impressive end to last season themselves, so will need plenty of options to rotate the squad next term.
However, Spence could be tempted to re-join Forest as he knows that he will be a regular in the side, whereas at Spurs, it might take him time to find his feet at the club and could have to watch from the sidelines. That said, Talbot’s claim does suggest that Spence may not be able to resist such a high-profile move.
