Goal journalist James Robson has stated that Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus will “add much-needed depth to Spurs” and would take the club “a big step forward” in the Premier League.

Spurs head coach Antonio Conte reportedly has his eyes on a striking backup to Harry Kane after clinching a Premier League top-four place and Champions League qualification for next season.

Brazil international Jesus is one of the names heavily linked with a move to north London amid other potential targets, coming after he ended the 2021/22 campaign on a hot streak of goalscoring form.

According to a recent report in the Times, Jesus had ‘been offered’ to the Lilywhites and is ‘believed’ to want to stay in England – coming as two possible boosts for Conte as he seeks more attacking depth for next term.

However, one potential obstacle could be north London rivals Arsenal, who are ‘quietly confident’ they can beat Tottenham to the punch.

And Robson has argued that both north London clubs will have a case for wanting to snatch the Brazilian from the English champions.

He tweeted on Monday afternoon: “Gabriel Jesus is an interesting one. He is some way off the absolute elite strikers, but immediately improves Chelsea, makes Arsenal very interesting and adds much-needed depth to Spurs. Basically, he takes the best of the rest in the Prem a big step forward.”

TIF Thoughts on Jesus to Spurs…

The 25-year-old has been described as a ‘perfect’ player for the Lilywhites, as well as a possible ‘massive signing’ and ‘statement’ move by ex-goalkeeper Paul Robinson, while speaking to Football Insider.

His age, goalscoring record in the top flight and fairly reasonable mooted £55m price tag are other reasons to seriously consider pressing ahead to sign Jesus, who would come in and provide some much-needed depth and possibly take the club to that next level in challenging for trophies as Robson mentioned above.

However, the South American hitman could find it difficult to get a run of games in the Spurs team with Harry Kane the main man up top and Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski thriving alongside him.

However, the Brazilian will presumably want guaranteed minutes, hence his decision to leave the Etihad, and he may not get that under Conte despite the lure of Champions League football.

With the World Cup soon on the horizon and a chance to lead his nation to glory, he may need to be the main man at club level – and Tottenham arguably won’t offer him such an opportunity.
