talkSPORT football correspondent Alex Crook believes that it is ‘important’ Dean Henderson sealed a move to Nottingham Forest with the World Cup just around the corner.

Crook was speaking live on air and the radio station’s YouTube channel as Forest agreed a deal with Manchester United for a season-long loan of the goalkeeper.

As a report from Sky Sports states Henderson’s arrival will help ‘accelerate’ current no.1 Brice Samba’s City Ground exit as he recently turned down an improved contract at the club and is said to be keen on a return to France.

Reports suggest that Ligue 1 outfit Lens are closing in on a deal for the Congolese netminder but Henderson will be a more than capable replacement and Crook believes he will be fighting for a spot on the England plane if the deal goes through.

(13:21)”That’s pretty much done it will be a loan deal for the rest of the season. Important for Dean Henderson in a World Cup year to go out and play some regular Premier League football. I think it will be a shootout between him and Nick Pope for that third goalkeeper spot in the England squad.”

The 25-yer-old was a mainstay during Sheffield United’s promotion campaign back in 2018/19 and took like a duck to water in the top-flight conceding just 33 goals in 36 Premier League matches and keeping 13 clean sheets as the Blades flourished finishing ninth before being relegated in the season after when Henderson and since returned to his parent club in Manchester.

He will ensure Forest undergo a seamless transition between the sticks as they look to avoid an instant return to the Championship and it could work both ways with the player now in with a shout of adding to his only other England cap from November 2020.
