Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed on a recent episode of NUFC Matters that Newcastle United will go back in for Dominic Calvert-Lewin if they can’t sign Hugo Ekitike.
It appears that Newcastle could be set to make their first attacking signing of the summer transfer window, with a deal for Ekitike seemingly edging closer, while according to Fabrizio Romano, the club are now hoping that a deal can be confirmed this week.
However, he is still nursing a hamstring injury that was picked up only a few days ago and the Magpies also found themselves in a confident place in January to sign Ekitike only for the player to turn down a move, so Newcastle won’t be too confident just yet.
Jacobs has claimed that if a move for Ekitike doesn’t materialise, PIF will look at Calvert-Lewin once again.
Who would you rather Newcastle signed?
Calvert-Lewin!

Ekitike!

He said: “If we’re looking at wildcard strikers or forward players, the name that keeps coming up is Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Newcastle seemingly will come back in for him if Ekitike doesn’t come off.”
TIF Thoughts on Newcastle going in for Calvert-Lewin…
The England international experienced an injury-hit campaign last term, which saw him start just 15 league games all season, but despite that, Everton have reportedly slapped a mammoth £60m price tag on his head.
While bringing in another international star would be a statement of intent from PIF, for someone that had so many injury problems last season, £60m would be a sizeable outlay, and after reportedly handing Ekitike promises on his first-team opportunities, it appears that a deal for the Frenchman looks far more likely.
