Tottenham Hotspur: Alasdair Gold issues Weston McKennie verdict

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to explore the possibility of landing the Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie this summer.

This has been suggested by the reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold who has been speaking about the American on his latest transfer video on YouTube.

It is believed Juventus could look to offload McKennie with the possible arrival of Paul Pogba to the Allianz Stadium this summer as a free agent.

And Spurs have shown previous interest in the 23-year-old who had a difficult end to the 2021/22 campaign after suffering a metatarsal fracture back in February.

With the American’s future at Juventus looking like it could be under threat, Gold does expect Fabio Paratici to explore the possibility this summer having been the man to bring him to Turin in the first place:

“Spurs, from what I understand, looking at more of someone that is a bit more forward-thinking than the current options. Someone that likes to get into the box a fair bit as well as do the other stuff.

“Look, I’ve said it before, but I do think Spurs will seriously look at Weston McKennie this summer. If you haven’t heard me say before, Paratici spoke to his representatives in January about a potential move. Paratici adores McKennie.

“And from what I understand, he [McKennie] was actually above Bentancur on his January wishlist for a central midfielder.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We think this could certainly be an interesting prospect that Spurs could look to explore with Paratici’s links to the American being a potential boost to their chances.

Since Gold said this, Spurs have reportedly agreed on a deal to land the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma for a reported £25m.

Bissouma is a slightly deeper-lying midfielder than the American but with reports of Christian Eriksen potentially choosing Spurs over Brentford, it does make for a rather crowded midfield.

So it will be interesting to see if this is something which Spurs may still pursue given Juventus could be looking to offload the 23-year-old to make way for the expected arrival of Pogba.
