Journalist Greg O’Keeffe has claimed that the potential transfer of Harry Winks to Everton makes sense – and he feels like the club want to progress on the deal.

There have been reports stating that Winks is on the radar of Everton with Frank Lampard being an admirer of him. Winks’ current club, Tottenham Hotspur, have supposedly told him to look for a new club and the Toffees are the main side interested.

Winks was heavily out of favour last season for Spurs, as he featured just 19 times in the Premier League, with only nine of those appearances coming from the start, so he might not have a role to play at all next season with them qualifying for the Champions League and since adding Yves Bissouma to their squad.

With Everton being interested in Winks, O’Keeffe claimed on the All Together Now podcast that it would be a transfer that would make sense for the Toffees.

He said: “I think it’s a deal that, like it or not, makes sort of sense, in terms of financially for Everton – I wouldn’t imagine it going to be a big fee – and for Tottenham. [They] want to move the player on, we are almost certain how much Lampard thinks he could work with him and values him, so it makes sense to me, I do have a feeling that it’s a deal that Everton would want to progress.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Keeffe’s comments…

With Everton just scraping Premier League safety last season, Lampard will be looking to bring in some new faces this summer, and with Harry Winks playing 128 games in the top flight, he could be a good option for the Toffees boss.

Also, with Spurs keen on offloading the midfielder and having used him sparingly last season, he might be available for the Toffees at a reduced price, which would be good for Lampard because of the current situation regarding the ownership and FFP regulations at the club, so the impact on the budget given to him might not be too bad.
