Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that Everton could be open to selling Andre Gomes in the upcoming months if a suitable offer was put on the table.
It was a difficult season last term for the Everton midfielder, as he missed large chunks of the season due to injury, with him failing to string a consistent run of games together, which meant he ended the campaign on just 14 Premier League appearances.
Everton have been linked with the likes of Conor Gallagher, Billy Gilmour and Harry Winks this transfer window, and with Gomes still having two years remaining on his current contract, Frank Lampard might be keen to cash in on him before the season starts.
Amid the lack of involvement for Gomes last season, Brown claimed to GiveMeSport that if there was a willing buyer for the Portuguese midfielder, the Toffees would snap it up and offload him.
He said: “Gomes hasn’t really been the same player since he got injured. He’s definitely gone backwards since he came to Everton, and I think if the club could find a buyer there, they would snap it up.”

With Everton having a poor season, Lampard will surely make several changes to the squad, and in order to bring in new faces, he might need to get players off the wage bill. Considering Gomes has not been able to feature regularly, he might be someone who could be shown the door.
Brown isn’t the only one to be of the belief that Gomes has not delivered at Goodison Park, with the Portugal ace coming in for criticism for his ‘reckless‘ displays in the past.
However, Gomes still has two years left on his contract, so even though the club might opt to cash in on him, Lampard might be keen to keep him at the club, because he is only 28 years old, and when fully fit, he could make a huge difference to the Toffees midfield and almost act as a new signing for next season.
On the other hand, it could be the perfect time to sell him, as the alternatives would be forking out for a new deal or losing him for free in the near future.
