Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that he has been told that Jonathan David might come on the radar of Aston Villa this summer.
Aston Villa are reportedly interested in bringing Jonathan David to Villa Park in the summer transfer window, but they might have fierce competition from fellow Premier League side West Ham United, who are also keen on the Canadian striker.
David was in fine form for Lille last season, he featured 48 times in all competitions for the French side, and he scored 19 goals along the way. He also proved that he can score goals in the Champions League after he netted three times in eight games last term.
Whilst speaking with GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that Luis Suarez is somebody that Villa have looked at, and he was told that David might come on their radar.
“We know that obviously, they looked at the Luis Suarez situation. But Jonathan David is somebody that might come onto the radar, I’m told.
“That profile of player might be the path that they go down. So, it’s definitely one to look out for because Aston Villa still have spending power in this market,” Jones said.
Do you think David would be good for Villa?
TIF Thoughts on Jones’s comments…
Aston Villa have already secured three new signings this summer, but they have not strengthened the front line yet, and with them finishing 14th in the Premier League last term, it is likely that Steven Gerrard will want to add some firepower to the attack before next season begins.
Danny Ings signed for Villa at the start of last season, but he failed to have a major impact after netting just seven times in the Premier League, and with David, who has been dubbed a ‘phenomenon’, scoring more than double the amount of goals last season in the French league, he could be a good option for Gerrard if he can bring that sort of goal scoring form to the Premier League.
