Journalist Charles Watts has stated that Arsenal will get a ‘massive’ boost with Gabriel Jesus set to join the club before preseason truly begins.

Earlier this week, some of the club’s player returned to London Colney ahead of the new season, though not every member of the first-team squad were involved due to still being on holiday following their international commitments (via football.london).

However, they will head out to America in July where the full senior team should expect to take part in the more important preseason fixtures.

While talking on his own YouTube channel, Watts explained that Jesus – who is ‘one step away’ from joining – will get a big advantage from arriving early in the summer, instead of later on in the club’s preparations.

He explained himself, saying (6:16): “We are, like I said, just one step away now from Gabriel Jesus being officially an Arsenal player. And getting him on board now before preseason, before they go away to the United States.

“And that’s going to be massive. It’s going to give him time to bed-in, to adjust to his new surroundings, build up a rapport with his teammates.

“So many times we’ve seen Arsenal be lackadaisical almost in their approach to the transfer window – leave it too late, rush everyone in and the end. And it’s taken a while to adjust.”

Arsenal certainly have left some transfer to the very last moment in the past before. Indeed, when they signed Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid back in 2020, they left it so late the player didn’t even know how it would be possible to get the move done in time.

Of course, that last-gasp signing meant the Ghanaian didn’t get to enjoy a preseason with the club and he actually missed the first four games of the season before injury ruled him out of further matches (via Transfermarkt). Had Partey enjoyed a full preseason with the Gunners, perhaps things would have got a little smoother in his debut campaign.

This may well have been in Watts minds as he made these latest quotes about Jesus. No doubt, once the Brazilian officially signs, he will hope to prepare as best as possible ahead of the upcoming season – it seems as though this transfer early on in the summer could give him a big boost.
