Commentator Derek Clark has said Rangers defender Calvin Bassey is worth ‘£45m+’ amid some recent transfer rumours.

Of late, the 22-year-old has been linked with a move away from Scotland. Indeed, the likes of Aston Villa are said to have even enquired about the possibility of claiming his signature.

Another defender that has been through the rumour mill of late is Brighton and Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella. Sky Sports recently claimed that if Chelsea want to sign him, they will have to pay at least £45m.

Upon hearing that news, Clark responded strongly, stating that the defender’s valuation meant Bassey must be worth even more in the current market.

He took to Twitter to say: “If this is the case, Calvin Bassey is worth £45m+.”

TIF thoughts on Calvin Bassey and Rangers…

There can be no doubting Bassey has had a pretty impressive season. Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie even praised his efforts in a recent Old Firm win, saying ‘what a player’ he was.

The latest reports on the left-back suggest that a bid of in excess of £25m would be required to prise the player away from Rangers, with clubs in the Bundesliga also tracking his progress.

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

And so, if a number of teams end up in a bidding way for Bassey, perhaps Clark’s valuation won’t be that far off. £45m would certainly be some fee to receive for the man, but stranger things have happened.
