Football pundit Tam McManus has claimed that Celtic captain Callum McGregor will stay with the club for his whole career even though teams in England would love to sign him.

The midfielder was recently crowned PFA Scotland Player of the Year, while his manager Ange Postecoglou was named Manager of the Year.

With Celtic looking likely to win the league title as well, it’s no surprise to see both captain and manager recognised as the division’s best.

And while discussing the player on the PLZ Soccer Show, McManus went as far as to say McGregor was good enough to ‘play anywhere’ – and that clubs in England would want him – but loved life in Scotland too much to go.

He explained (47:22): “I think he’s underrated as well. I think he could play anywhere, Callum McGregor.

“I know he’s at Celtic, and I’m absolutely certain that this clubs in England who would have loved to have taken him, but I just think he’s comfortable here.

“I think he’s gonna end up playing his whole career at Celtic, being a one-club player.”

TIF thoughts on Callum McGregor and Celtic…

Having come through the Celtic academy, the only time McGregor has spent away from the club was a loan spell to Notts County in 2013/14. And so, now aged 28 years of age, there is every chance he could go through his whole career belonging to the Bhoys.

With 49 appearances to his name across all competitions this season – and a total of 374 senior games for the club – it’s fair to say McGregor has put in the hard yards for the club.

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

He’s earned his rewards too with six league titles, and a host of other domestic cup wins over the years. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why McManus feels club’s in England would be keen to acquire him.

However, such has been his success, it would also be understandable if they player was to stay at the club for the rest of his career – which is what the pundit predicts he will do.
