Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United are interested in signing young prospect Ollie O’Neill.
With that in mind, attention will soon turn towards the summer where West Ham will hope to make inroads in the upcoming transfer market.
O’Neill has just enjoyed promotion to the Premier League with Fulham, but could be playing for a different club in that division if the rumours are true.
Should West Ham target younger players this transfer market?
While speaking on The West Way Ham podcast, Ex stated that the midfielder has ‘drawn attention’ for his displays this term.
He explained (59:18): “Ollie O’Neill is someone whose name has just recently come up – from Fulham.
“We’ve always looked at lots of Fulham players. There’s a centre back I’ve talked about from there, there was [Fabio] Carvalho.
“There’s a number of Fulham players that we look at. And, apparently, Ollie O’Neill is someone that has drawn attention.”
TIF thoughts on Ollie O’Neill and West Ham…
While not playing any kind of role in helping Fulham get promoted back onto the Premier League, O’Neill has impressed in the club’s youth side this term.
Indeed, he has netted six times while adding a further three assists in 23 Premier League 2 outings this this season. He has also represented the Republic of Ireland at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification stages – scoring against Sweden in a match-winning six minute cameo off the bench.
Judging from that, O’Neill certainly looks to be a player with a bright future. The only question is, will he continue his progression with Fulham, or will West Ham try and swoop for the 19-year-old this summer amid their apparent interest?
Only time will tell.
