Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero was left in awe of his teammate Rodrigo Bentancur after his scintillating performance in Spurs’ 3-1 win at home to Leicester City.

The race for Champions League football is heating up and the Lilywhites moved onto 61 points for the campaign with a convincing win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but are still two behind north London rivals Arsenal, who got the better of West Ham, in the battle for the coveted fourth position.

The two giants will collide on Thursday, May 12th and it is all to play for with four games to go.

Bentancur earned a match rating of 7.4 on SofaScore in the victory – higher than goalscorer Harry Kane (7.1) – and his controlled performance as the midfield metronome earned a rave review from his teammate Romero on social media after the game.

Commenting under the Uruguayan’s Instagram post, Romero wrote what translates as: “The figure, the animal.”

TIF Thoughts on Bentancur…

Romero’s praise of Bentancur is well justified, with the 24-year-old winning nine of his 12 duels, including eight of 11 on the ground.

The £22.5m-rated dynamo also ranked first among Tottenham players for tackles (4) and joint-first with Romero for interceptions (3)

Bentancur joined Tottenham on a permanent deal this January, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract after Juventus were paid a reported £15.8m (with £5.7m due in potential add-ons) for his services.

In the short time since he has arrived, he has already made himself a key part of Conte’s plans.

Since returning from an ankle injury at the end of February, the former Juventus man has started all nine of Spurs’ Premier League matches with the north London club emerging victorious in six of those games.

If he continues to play as well as he did against the Foxes, Bentancur could well end up helping his team achieve Champions League football at the end of the season – and he seems to have the approval of his teammates.
