Tottenham Hotspur could receive a late and unexpected injury boost for their clash against Norwich City on Sunday, according to Alasdair Gold.

The north London outfit have been without Cristian Romero in their last two Premier League games, with the Argentine centre-back believed to be suffering from a hip injury.

Would you risk Romero on Sunday?

No

And Antonio Conte has claimed the 24-year-old would be forced to miss the remainder of the season as a result of his latest injury setback.

However, speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, Gold has picked up on some recent comments from the Italian manager which may suggest Romero could make a return to action this weekend against the Canaries.

Conte told Spurs TV ahead of the Burnley clash: “The situation is the same as before the game against Arsenal – Cuti is trying in his mind to recover for the last game against Norwich but honestly, we don’t know [if he will be available].”

Spurs correspondent Gold has taken some optimism from these comments, suggesting the Argentinian may still be looking to prove his fitness to Conte ahead of the trip to Carrow Road.

He said: “I saw some comments from Conte where he said – obviously he’s told us enough times he doesn’t believe Romero will be fit – but he did say that in Romero’s head, he’s trying desperately to be fit for that final game.

“Obviously, it’s a hip injury he’s got. Whether they feel that he can maybe play with a painkiller or a painkilling injection or something to just get through this game, I don’t know.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

This will certainly provide a lot of Spurs fans with optimism ahead of the huge clash against Norwich on Sunday, with Romero seriously impressing since he joined Tottenham. Though, it does come as quite a shock as it was claimed just under a week ago that he would be out for the rest of the season.

However, this excitement among fans will only be the case if the Argentinian is genuinely fit enough to play and not at risk of potentially making his issue worse.

But we are fairly sure Conte will not allow this to happen with Davinson Sanchez putting in some impressive displays in Romero’s place in the last two games.
