Leeds United journalist Conor McGilligan has slammed the Yorkshire side’s board over their lack of movement in the January transfer window.
The Whites will be going into the final day of the 2021/22 campaign with their spot in the Premier League still to play for as they travel to the capital to face Brentford.
Are you hopeful Leeds will stay up?
Yes
No
Jesse Marsch’s men picked up a huge point at the weekend with a dramatic late equaliser against Brighton & Hove Albion dragging them out of the bottom three ahead of Thursday’s games.
It has been a dismal campaign for the Whites on the whole, with McGilligan reacting to an image of the league table from January where the Whites sat slumped in 16th spot.
And it is apparent the Leeds correspondent has been left baffled by the board’s decision not to invest in January, with their position only worsening since the window closed.
He tweeted: “Never understand how the board thought this was a good scenario in January. Still can’t put my finger on whether it verges more on arrogance or naivety.”
TIF Thoughts on McGilligan’s comments…
It certainly does seem an odd decision from Victor Orta and the board not to invest to some degree in the January window – and it could come back to haunt them this weekend.
There was talk of Leeds making a move for Brenden Aaronson in January, but reports now claim they will revisit their attempts in the summer.
However, you have to question whether they will even get the chance to return for the American if they do go down.
And had they made the signing in the summer, what type of effect could this have had on their season with the addition of his creative flair?
With this in mind, we can see where McGilligan is coming from, though he does have the benefit of hindsight.
