Leeds United: Journalist makes claim on transfer strategy

Image for Leeds United: Journalist makes claim on transfer strategy

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch will look to bring in players that he knows in the summer transfer window.

Leeds appointed Marsch as their manager following the poor season the club was enduring. Marcelo Bielsa was sacked on the back of the worst defensive month in Premier League history when they conceded 20 goals in February – the most in a Premier League calendar month.

Although it went down to the final day and the Whites relied on Newcastle beating Burnley, Marsch managed to guide his side to Premier League safety.

It was recently announced that Brenden Aaronson had signed for Leeds, and with Marsch working with the youngster previously at RB Salzburg, O’Rourke claimed that he may look to bring in more players he is familiar with in the summer.

He told This Is Futbol: “I’m sure Jesse Marsch will be looking at players that he knows and he’s well aware of. This is his first transfer window in charge of Leeds, having arrived midway through last season as well. So he’ll be looking to impact the squad and bring in players that he knows and works with.”

Will Aaronson be a success at Leeds?

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Against all the odds, Leeds managed to remain in the Premier League, after beating Brentford and other results going their way. The events on the final day may have had a massive impact on the summer transfers.

Leeds confirmed Aaronson will be joining on 1st July, and this deal may not have been completed if they were relegated to the Championship, as with his previous club Salzburg featuring in the Champions League, it will have been a heavy step down.

The signing of one of his previous players could be an indication of the strategy that Marsch is going to go down, by bringing in players that he knows to suit his system, so we think there is plenty of merit to O’Rourke’s theory.
