Journalist Dean Jones has told This Is Futbol that Kalvin Phillips’ chances of staying at Leeds United aren’t very high even if they do stay up.

Leeds midfielder Phillips is on the radar of several Premier League clubs such as Manchester City, ahead of the summer transfer window, due to him almost certainly being available to sign if Leeds get relegated on Sunday.

Phillips has missed large chunks of the season due to injury, he has featured just 19 times in the Premier League, and the several other injury woes have been the main reason why Leeds have struggled this season, as they currently sit in the bottom three of the Premier League with one game left to play.

Will Leeds avoid relegation?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Speaking prior to Leeds’ final game of the season amid rumours linking Phillips with a move to Manchester City, Jones told This Is Futbol that even if the Whites remain in the top flight, he is still likely to move on.

He said: “Obviously, he’s emotionally entwined with Leeds United and the fanbase, and he loves it, and he doesn’t really want to go anywhere else – but he can’t be languishing in a relegation battle right now.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’s comments…

This comes after Ian Wright claimed that Kalvin Phillips, who Marcus Rashford praised as ‘immense’, wants to leave Leeds United this summer.

Phillips has struggled with injury issues this season, but his form last season for Leeds, where he had the highest average player rating (7.21), and then the impressive performances in the Euros, this will almost definitely be enough to keep him in the Premier League if Leeds get relegated.

With the World Cup coming up at the end of the year, Phillips may be thinking that if he wants to be a part of the squad then he will have to move away from Leeds, and join a more successful side higher up the table.
