Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa has seemingly confirmed that he is staying at Villa Park amid speculation surrounding his future.

Rumours have been running rampant in recent months that Steven Gerrard is plotting a major overhaul ahead of his first full season in charge in the West Midlands.

Having been Europe’s sixth-biggest spenders in January, Villa look certain to splash the cash once again at the end of the season, with owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris set to offer the Liverpool legend a warchest for the upcoming transfer window.

Football Insider raised concerns over what that meant for Konsa, who has started 29 times this season as Tyrone Mings’ preferred partner of choice up until he suffered a knee injury, which looks set to rule him out for a number of months.

However, accompanied by a picture of himself on the turf at Villa Park, crutches in hand, the £22.5m-rated defender looks to have suggested that he will be staying at the club beyond this summer.

Taking to Instagram, he posted: “Thank you for your unbelievable support this season at Villa Park, great having you fans back, see you at Villa Park next season.”

TIF Thoughts on Ezri Konsa and Villa…

While Gerrard may well bring in reinforcements in the backline this summer, letting go of a 24-year-old who finished second in the Birmingham Mail’s 2021 poll for Player of the Year behind Emiliano Martinez would be a big call.

Villa paid £12m to sign the former England U21 international from Brentford in 2019, and just last season, reliable journalist David Ornstein reported for The Athletic that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were keeping an eye on him.

Interestingly, Ashley Preece also dismissed rumours of an exit during a Q&A session for Birmingham Live, saying there was “nothing in those”, which would seem to suggest that we will indeed be seeing Konsa back in claret and blue next season.
