Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have been left furious by the footage to emerge on Twitter of the only goal from their game on Thursday night.

The Gers will go into the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Sporting Braga with a narrow disadvantage after the Portuguese side sealed a 1-0 victory on Thursday.

Do you think Rangers will advance to the semi finals?

Spanish forward Abel Ruiz provided the home side with the goal on the night but it was a moment to forget from Leon Balogun which led to the 22-year-old opening the scoring.

As the ball was crossed towards the edge of the penalty area, the 33-year-old Rangers defender was unable to clear his lines as his weak effort saw the ball fall at the feet of Ruiz before he fired beyond Allan McGregor.

Rangers return to Ibrox next Thursday for the second leg with a game against either RB Leipzig or Atalanta on offer for the winner of the tie.

TIF Thoughts on the footage…

The tie is certainly not over for the Scottish side, however, after a disappointing result on the weekend, it was not what Van Bronckhorst would’ve hoped for.

And it will likely have left the Dutch manager frustrated as it was a goal that could have been avoided had the Nigerian defender been quicker on his feet to clear the ball.

Rangers have now been unable to keep a clean sheet in any of their previous four games across all competitions and with mistakes such as this, it is not much of a surprise.

With their hopes of lifting the Scottish title this season taking a hit on the weekend, going behind in their Europa League tie will be a big disappointment for the Gers.
