Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos potentially missing the Old Firm derby is a huge blow for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Morelos has been a mainstay in the Rangers side, making 26 appearances in the league, scoring 12 goals and assisting seven times. Rangers currently sit three points behind the league leaders heading into Sunday’s clash at Ibrox.

The striker has been reporting on international duty for Colombia, but was unfortunately sent home early after he picking up a thigh injury, and there are now concerns that he will miss Sunday’s Old Firm derby.

After the news that Morelos could potentially miss the derby on Sunday, O’Rourke spoke to GiveMeSport and identified how much of a blow it would be for Rangers if they were without their star striker.

He said: “It would be a huge blow for Rangers to be without their star striker for this one. You want your best players fit for the biggest games, and they don’t come much bigger than this one.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Morelos has been the main man up top for Rangers this season, as alongside his goals, he has an average of 4.3 shots on target per game and has been named in SofaScore’s Team of the Week seven times.

Rangers fell to a heavy defeat without Morelos in the last Old Firm derby in February, so will surely be counting on the Colombian to spur them on to victory by taking to the field this weekend.

As Rangers sit three points behind Celtic with a lower goal difference than their rivals, the game on Sunday could decide who wins the league as a Celtic win or draw may make it difficult for Giovanni van Brockhorst’s side to catch them, so they must have their top goalscorer fighting fit.
