Football writer Mark Guidi has slammed Kyogo Furuhashi for his display in the Celtic’s Old Firm defeat last weekend in the Scottish Cup.

The forward played 62 minutes for his side as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against their bitter rivals in the Scottish Cup semi-final recently.

While on the pitch, the scores remained 0-0, with the Bhoys striking through Greg Taylor shortly after Kyogo was taken off. And it seems as though his ineffective display caught the eye for all the wrong reasons.

Have you been disappointed by Kyogo of late?

Indeed, while talking on the Go Radio Football Show, Guidi said Celtic’s inability to have an attacking outlet was due to the striker’s limited impact on the game.

He explained: “There just wasn’t a good enough out ball for Celtic. The ball wasn’t sticking up front at all, it just kept coming back.

“Kyogo, for all his skill, and he’s a top, top player, we’re not doubting that, but he just didn’t get [involved] – apart from when [Connor] Goldson took him out of the game on the edge of the box, and he got booked for that – there was nothing else. Kyogo didn’t have an effect on the game at all.”

TIF thoughts on Kyogo and Celtic…

After a really impressive start to life in Scotland – where he scored a hat-trick in his second league game – Kyogo has struggled in recent times.

Of course, a huge reason for this has been a significant hamstring injury, although he was evidently fit enough to start an Old Firm clash but failed to deliver. Indeed, Guidi’s sentiments were echoed on the BBC player ratings, with fans handing Kyogo a score of just 3.76 for his efforts.

Which forward played for Celtic's academy?

Despite their exit in the cup, the Bhoys still have plenty to play for domestically, so the Japanese international will hope to be back to his best in the near future.
