Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Allan Saint-Maximin could be a Wolves player next season if Bruno Lage wants him.

Saint-Maximin has been a standout performer for Newcastle since he signed from OGC Nice in 2019 for a reported £16.5m. This season in the Premier League he has scored five goals and registered three assists in 28 games – his joint-best return in terms of goal contributions on Tyneside.

There have been reports stating that Newcastle will be open to selling Saint-Maximin, and Wolves are interested in the Frenchman’s signature as per 90min.

With the reports saying that Wolves are interested in Saint-Maximin, Jones told GiveMeSport that Lage could realistically sign him if he really wants to.

He said: “I can see why they would consider him as an Adama Traore type of attacker. He’s got the pace and the trickery. I think they can get him if they really want him.”

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments…

Saint-Maximin is valued at £28.8 million by Transfermarkt and has been excellent in terms of his stats for Newcastle this season. In the Premier League, he has eight goal involvements and has 4.3 successful dribbles per game – topping the side’s rankings in both departments, as per SofaScore.

The tricky winger could be the perfect replacement for Adama Traore, who joined Barcelona on loan in January, and if Wolves want to progress next year, then Saint-Maximin would be a great option with the Spaniard clearly not in Lage’s plans.

Wolves are currently fighting for a Europa League place ahead of next season, so if Lage can offer the Toon ace European football, that could be a major factor in completing the transfer.
