According to Pete O’Rourke, Leander Dendoncker could leave Wolves this summer.

Dendoncker made the move to Molineux on a permanent deal in 2019 after an initial one-year loan, and has made 150 appearances for the Old Gold. However, he has just one year left on his contract, although he does have the option to extend for another year.

Do you remember who Wolves signed Ivan Cavaleiro from?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, O’Rourke suggested the £27m-valued former Anderlecht midfielder could leave during the summer transfer window. He said, while also discussing Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves, “If those two players end up staying at Wolves, that might mean Dendoncker might have to move on, and he has got this interest from Italy as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Dendoncker’s future

Reports suggest Lazio are interested in the 27-year-old, so there is already an indication of where he could move to. The Belgium international has been an influential player for Premier League side Wolves since his arrival, and his departure would be a big blow to Bruno Lage, especially when he could be part of an exodus.

Adama Traore has already moved on loan to Barcelona and could well make a permanent switch to the Camp Nou, while Joao Moutinho could leave as his contract comes to an end. Ruben Neves has attracted interest from across the continent and, with Wolves set to miss out on European qualification, the Portugal international may decide to seek pastures new. O’Rourke does say Dendoncker could depart only if the other two do not leave, but would he be willing to stay put without the same quality alongside him?

Unfortunately, it appears Wolves are struggling to hold on to their best players. All Lage and Co can do is study the transfer market for players who could fill in the gaps left by those who may depart.
