Insider ExWHUemployee has claimed West Ham United scouted Breel Embolo during the past international break.

Over the past transfer window, the Hammers seemed close to signing a new striker but never quite got the deal across the line. Indeed, a move for Atalanta forward Duvan Zapata fell through at the final moment.

With that in mind, it seems likely that they will dip into the market this summer with the aim to make a new attacking addition to their ranks.

Should West Ham sign Breel Embolo this summer?

It seems as though the club are already making plans for who that player could be, with Ex recently stating that the Swiss striker is one of a ‘number of players’ who were looked at by West Ham during the international period that just passed.

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex said: “We used the international window to look at a couple of players that we’ve had an interest in previously.

“There’s a number of players that played in that international period, that we had looked at.

“I mean, one of them for example – there’s a couple of players from Switzerland – one of the players have been linked to before is Embolo.”

TIF Thoughts on  Breel Embolo and West Ham…

If Ex is correct in saying the scouts were watching Embolo they likely would have impressed, as he actually scored for Switzerland in their 2-1 loss against England at Wembley.

Even so, at club level this season, playing for Borussia Monchengladbach, the striker hasn’t exactly been prolific. But with seven goals and four assists to his name, he has shown he can score as well as provide. That skill is reflected by his total of 21 goals and 18 assists in 100 games while playing for Gladbach, with Marco Rose even saying that he has ‘enormous qualities’.

It remains to be seen as to whether or not the scouts will feel as though he is a player worth singing in the summer, but he wouldn’t have done his chances any harm by scoring against the Three Lions in the same city West Ham play in.
