Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane returned to training at Hotspur Way on time following his recent trip to America, according to Alasdair Gold

The Spurs players were granted a couple of days off from training after their recent emphatic victory over Aston Villa, which saw the England captain jet off to Augusta to watch the final day of The Masters.

Was Kane right to go to America?

Yes

No

No

Kane appeared on Sky Sports’ coverage and may have sparked some concern from the Spurs fans, with a game against Brighton & Hove Albion on the agenda the following Saturday.

Spurs lost the game against Graham Potter’s men at the weekend and the 28-year-old striker proved ineffective at best, with no shots on target to his name and just 27 touches throughout the match (via SofaScore).

And although Gold revealed on his YouTube channel that the striker returned to training looking tired, his trip was not the reason behind the poor display this weekend.

He said: “There was no special dispensation to say that anyone had any extra time off or anything like that. They had to be back for Tuesday training. Harry Kane was back for Tuesday training. He was there. A little bit bleary-eyed, I’m told, but he was there for Tuesday training.

“I don’t know, maybe it’s just me. He was back on Tuesday. He hasn’t gone away for a long time in America. His body won’t have really adjusted to a different time zone. And I’ve seen lots of people saying ‘he’ll be jet-lagged and wiped out since’. I don’t think so. You know, what, 48 hours or so in another country? I don’t think you’re adjusting jet lag-wise, really.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We have to agree with Gold’s comments, with Kane having the large majority of the week to recover from his trip to the States and the striker visiting for just a matter of hours given the players only had two days off.

With his trip to the golf made so public, it was always going to open the striker to criticism if he and the rest of the squad were unable to provide the goods on Saturday.

It was not just Kane, however, who suffered a quiet afternoon in north London, with Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski also proving largely ineffective against the Seagulls.
