Spurs and boss Antonio Conte will have a busy summer transfer window coming up as they look to improve on the Italian’s impact and Southampton star James Ward-Prowse could be the ‘ideal’ man for the job, according to pundit Darren Ambrose.

The North London outfit has experienced a turbulent Premier League season in 2021/22 after their experiment with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo failed, which saw previous Chelsea and Inter Milan boss, Conte, take charge of the side who now look likely for a top-four finish.

Despite the side’s recent 1-0 loss at the hands of Brighton, they have been on fine form in recent weeks. Winning four of their last five, netting more than three goals in three of these games while putting five past Newcastle and four past Aston Villa.

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

They have work to do in order to finish inside the top four, currently occupying fourth but level on points with rivals Arsenal and only three points ahead of Manchester United. However, regardless of if they finish with Champions League football booked for next season, Conte will want to improve his team using the transfer window to do so.

One of the names that have come up recently is Southampton star man and fan favourite, James Ward-Prowse, who has impressed during this time at the south coast club. scoring eight and assisting seven times so far this season, and with the England national team. One of the people championing the idea of JWP joining Spurs is TalkSport pundit Ambrose who believes the Southampton midfielder could be the ideal man for Spurs.

He told TalkSport GameDay podcast, “James Ward-Prowse is ideal for Tottenham, and I think he would, if it was me, he’d be my main transfer target in the summer, like you said English. And to be honest, I think that would put him more in the eye of a starting place playing for Spurs than Southampton.”

TIF Thoughts on Ward-Prowse to Spurs…

The £28.8m-rated midfielder has been a great servant to Southampton during their lengthy Premier League stay and is surely deserving of a move to a big club sooner rather than later. The Englishmen are the heart of the team and the engine in the midfield that has seen the Saints impress under Ralph Hassenhuttl, as well as being deemed as one of the best free-kick takers in the world.

Should Spurs sign JWP?

This is something that Spurs could use on their team. They have a number of imposing aerial threats like Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, and Davidson Sanchez, who could all benefit from the delivery JWP has consistently shown through the years.

As well as the move benefitting Spurs, it could also vastly improve the career of JWP. He has been on the fringes of starting for the England national team as getting consistent game time at a club like Spurs could thrust him into contention ever further. This move seems like it would benefit both the player and the team, but Southampton will not want to get rid of their key man, so a large fee might have to be put up in order to do so.
