Image for Tottenham Hotspur: Image shows Matty Cash horror tackle on Matt Doherty

Tottenham Hotspur fans will be furious after seeing an image of Matt Doherty being fouled by Matty Cash in the club’s last game.

Over the weekend, Spurs cruised to an easy 4-0 away win over Aston Villa as Son Heung-min netted a hat-trick, while Dejan Kulusevski also got in on the act.

However, the victory has been marred by a knee injury to Doherty, who was unable to continue after being fouled badly by Cash just 21 minutes into the game, and now looks set to miss the rest of the season (via The Athletic).

Is Matt Doherty Spurs' best wingback?

In an image uploaded to Twitter (taken from footage which aired on Sky Sports), it’s clear to see the way the Aston Villa man collides with the wing-back’s knee – wrapping both legs around Doherty. No doubt, the picture will have many supporters feeling pretty angry.

TIF Thoughts on Matt Doherty and Tottenham…

This will come as a real blow for Doherty and Tottenham, as he was just starting to find some good form under manager Antonio Conte.

Indeed, having spent much of the season in and out of the team, he had actually started the last seven league games in a row. In that time, he had contributed two goals and three assists, and Spurs had won all but one game. He also scored some SofaScore match ratings as high as 8.3 and even 9.3 during that period.

When fans see this image – which shows the lack of control in Cash’s tackle – and consider the fine form Doherty was in, they will likely be left in a pretty sour mood. It’s easy to understand why.

With his season now over, everyone around the club will no doubt be hoping he can get back to his best next term.
