Miles Starforth has been speaking on the Mouth of the Tyne podcast about how Fabian Schar should start for Newcastle United this weekend.

Eddie Howe decided to make a whole load of changes for Newcastle United’s away clash against bottom of the league Norwich City with Jamaal Lascelles, Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock all being handed starts.

The changes didn’t appear to have that much of an impact on Newcastle with the Magpies romping to a 3-0 win against the Canaries which will be a massive positive for Howe to see his squad players can come in and do a job when called upon.

Does Schar deserve a new contract?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

However, despite those squad players performing well, Starforth expects the regulars to come back into the side for Saturday, especially Fabian Schar.

(13:40) “You’d expect one or two of those who sat out the Norwich game, they were all on the bench so it wasn’t as if the players who dropped out of the team weren’t involved and they were all fit enough to play some part if needed then you’d imagine two or three of those will come back into the team. Fabian Schar certainly, he’s been the cornerstone of the defence.”

TIF thoughts on Schar…

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

The Switzerland international, who is valued at £6.3 million (as per Transfermarkt), has enjoyed two very different halves of the season as under Steve Bruce he was very rarely seen and with his contract set to expire in the summer would have likely been expected to leave at the end of the season, but the centre back has now only missed two games under Eddie Howe.

Schar in fact now ranks inside the top eight Newcastle United players when it comes to their WhoScored ratings which would have been unheard of under Bruce, but Howe is clearly getting the most out of Schar who is currently in talks to sign a new contract.
