Newcastle United’s owners are looking into the possibility of expanding St James’ Park in the future, according to Jordan Cronin.

The journalist has claimed on the Loaded HQ YouTube channel the club’s owners are delving into the possibilities of creating more seating at the club’s Tyneside home amid the demand for matchday tickets.

Does St. James' Park need to be expanded?

Matchday attendances at St James’ Park have increased since the new owners took charge on Tyneside, with their first sell-out crowd coming in the first game of their reign.

It is believed any potential expansion would come through developments made to the Gallowgate stand despite the controversy surrounding the land behind which was sold by Mike Ashley.

There has been some talk in the past of the club potentially looking to move their home to a new location in order to expand, however, Cronin believes the owners are not looking to move and feel an extension could be a possibility.

He said: “I know the new owners are looking into it, but I think there’s a few things they’ve got to do first because there was a sale of Strawberry Place a few years ago under Mike Ashley.

“So I don’t know if the new owners are trying to find a way of potentially buying that back. So there’s a lot to do before they do extend the stadium.

“But what we do know is that Newcastle won’t be moving from St James’ Park, the new owners have already confirmed that.”

TIF Thoughts on Cronin’s comments…

This will surely come to the delight of all Newcastle fans, who will be thrilled to hear the new owners do not intend on moving the club away from their St James’ home.

The stadium is situated right in the heart of the city centre, which would likely mean building a new stadium would require a considerable relocation with land in the area clearly sought-after by developers.

St James’ Park has been the home of the Toon since the club was formed, so it would be a real shame if the club was prised away from its roots.
