Newcastle United have a transfer meeting scheduled for May to discuss their plans ahead of the summer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist was speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel to discuss the latest transfer news after the Toon’s recent drubbing in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe’s side spent big in the January transfer window, with £91.89m spent across their four permanent signings, but it did see an instant improvement in results.

Newcastle currently sit nine points clear of the bottom three with eight games remaining in their season having recorded some impressive results across February and March.

With the Toon already being linked to the likes of Jan Oblak ahead of the summer window, Romano had the following to say:

“I’m told that Newcastle will make some decisions on players they already have and the players they want to sign in May. They have a meeting already scheduled in May to discuss about it. So at the moment, for Saint-Maximin, still nothing concrete, but let’s see in the coming weeks what happens.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

Howe’s men are still not mathematically safe from relegation, however, with such an advantage with just eight games remaining, they sit in a healthy spot.

So presuming the Magpies do survive the drop, we think this summer has the potential to be huge on Tyneside with it being their first summer with the new owners in charge.

They have already shown their intent in the January market, so we will be incredibly interested to see how they attack the summer window given they have spoken so highly of their big plans.
