Sky Sports correspondent for Newcastle United, Keith Downie, expects the Toon to bring in at least four or five new faces in the summer window.

The Sky reporter was speaking to This Is Futbol amid the Premier League run-in as the Toon look to retain their spot in the Premier League.

Would five signings be enough this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

And looking ahead to the first summer transfer window with the new ownership at the helm, Downie feels there will be a number of new additions made to Eddie Howe’s side.

The Magpies invested heavily in the January window with four permanent players signed totalling a £90m spending on top of the loan signing of Matt Targett (via Transfermarkt).

With eight games remaining of their 2021/22 campaign, Howe’s men still face the prospect of potentially being relegated to the Championship, however, do have a seven-point gap to 18th-placed Burnley.

Despite their Premier League status not being sealed just yet, Downie is already expecting a busy few months on Tyneside in terms of transfers:

I still expect maybe four or five players to arrive, at least. And that’s without me talking about anyone leaving, obviously, if anyone leaves that then makes the need for that more,” said the Sky Sports man.

TIF Thoughts on Downie’s comments…

We think Downie’s will delight Newcastle fans in knowing there are a number of players expected to come through the doors at St. James’ Park in the summer.

And rightfully so, as despite the upturn in results since the January window, there is still clearly an awful lot of room for improvement which was seen in their drubbing against Tottenham Hotspur.

Although there is an expectation to bring in around five new faces, we will be interested to see what calibre of player the Toon will be targeting having set the bar high with the addition of Bruno Guimaraes.

Given Arsenal were heavily linked with the Brazilian, Newcastle have shown their ability to attract some of the in-demand players from around Europe, so this summer could certainly be an interesting one.
