Journalist Chris Waugh noted Allan Saint-Maximin’s work rate when Newcastle United faced Norwich City this afternoon.

The Magpies travelled to the Premier League strugglers as they looked to put any lingering relegation of their own to bed, with Eddie Howe’s side heading into the game 12 points clear of the drop with five games remaining – meaning they are potentially a week away from officially securing their place in the top flight for next season.

Despite the rumours of an exit for Saint-Maximin, Waugh took to Twitter during the game and highlighted how hard he was working for his side at Carrow Road.

The Athletic journalist noted: “Travelling fans chant Saint-Maximin’s name after he tracks Byram’s run all the way back to his own byline & puts it out for a throw-in.”

TIF Thoughts on Chris Waugh’s comments…

It will be interesting to see what happens with Saint-Maximin ahead of next season, with links stating that Newcastle may be open to selling him, but he is still working hard for his side, despite the rumours of an exit.

He has been top of the stats for Newcastle this season in the Premier League, recording the most goal contributions (8), the most successful dribbles for his side (4.3) and creating the most big chances this season for his side (5) prior to the clash, as per SofaScore.

As well as displaying their appreciation for his efforts in their latest game, the Toon fans also recently showed their support towards the French winger, with a flag with his picture displayed in Newcastle’s previous home match, so Saint-Maximin may be inclined to stay at the club because of his relationship with the Magpies faithful.
