Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Callum Wilson will not be a big part of Newcastle United’s plans moving forward.

Wilson has been out of action for Newcastle United since he picked up an injury on 27th December against Manchester United. However, the English striker remains the club’s top scorer in the Premier League with six goals, despite not featuring this calendar year.

Amid the club’s takeover, the Magpies could bring in a new haul of talented players to the club in the summer, so some of the current first-team squad may see their game time limited next campaign.

With Wilson injured for the entirety of the second half of the season, Jones highlighted to GiveMeSport that he may not feature regularly under Eddie Howe next term.

He said: “They obviously want him back, but I don’t think Callum Wilson is going to be a main player in this team next season, to be honest.”

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’s comments…

Wilson was one of the main performers for Newcastle in the first half of the season in what was a difficult spell for the Magpies, as they failed to win a game in the Premier League until 4th December against Burnley.

Although Wilson did score six goals in 15 Premier League games, Howe may be thinking that with the club’s newfound wealth, he may be able to bring in a forward with a better goalscoring record to help take the club to the next level.

With the likes of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes being brought into the club, who both have Champions League experience, this could be a sign of things to come for the Magpies and they may be looking at bringing in players of a higher calibre to replace players such as Wilson, so we can certainly see where Jones is coming from.
