During Newcastle’s essential 1-0 win on Friday night, winger Ryan Fraser was pulled off early with an injury – but their problems didn’t stop there, as star man Allan Saint-Maximin was spotted limping off the pitch.

The Magpies all but secured their Premier League status for another season after they narrowly bested Wolves at home with a 1-0 win. However, unfortunately for the north-east side, they picked up a casualty in Ryan Fraser, who was subbed off after 13 minutes with an injury.

It looked as if the bad luck ended there until Saint-Maximin was seen to be limping off the field when he made way for Jacob Murphy in the dying embers of the game, with it being suggested on Twitter by journalist Chris Waugh that the Frenchman also picked up an injury.

Waugh wrote on Twitter: ‘It is Saint-Maximin who limps off, not Wood. (Might be a “Saint-Maximin injury” mind, we’ll see…). Murphy comes on.’

TIF Thoughts on potential Saint-Maximin injury…

Any sort of injury to one of Newcastle’s most important players this season will come as a huge blow to the manager, team and the fans at the tail end of the season. So far this season, Saint-Maximin has racked up five goals and three assists in his 28 Premier League appearances with 4.2 dribbles, 1.4 key passes, and 1.9 shots per game (WhoScored).

Having missed plenty of games during his time at Newcastle through various injuries including groin and calf problems as well as illness, any more time off the pitch will not be good for the winger.

While Newcastle look safe sitting 10 points above the relegation zone, they have tough fixtures coming up with the likes of Leicester City, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool still to face, so they may need Saint-Maximin if they are to challenge in any of these games.

If he’s unavailable, you’d be forgiven for thinking they may not get any sort of results from these games, but the Magpies are yet to lose this season in any of the matches he played no part in.
