Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that it would be exciting times for the Newcastle faithful if Ismaila Sarr was to join the club in the summer.

Sarr lit up the Championship last campaign for Watford, and it was very likely that if the Hornets did not get promotion to the top flight, the winger would have left the club, with Liverpool showing interest. And with Watford very much on the brink of relegation, it could be the 24-year-old’s last season at Vicarage Road. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are reportedly interested in the winger’s services next season.

It hasn’t been a fairytale season in the Premier League for the Senegalese winger, as he has suffered from injury problems, which have meant he has featured just 15 times in the league, whilst chipping in with five goals and one assist for his side.

With the likelihood of relegation for Watford this season, O’Rourke highlighted to GIVEMESPORT how much of a force Sarr would be in the Magpies attack, playing alongside Allan Saint-Maximin.

He said: “If you had Saint-Maximin on one wing and Ismaila Sarr on the other, they’d be very speedy attackers and people who can score goals, create goals. And we all know Newcastle fans love to see their team play attacking football.”

TIF Thoughts on Pete O’Rourke’s comments…

The winger has been hailed as the ‘standout’ player for Watford in the current campaign. As well as goal contributions, he averages the most shots, second-most key passes, is the most fouled player and completes the third-highest amount of dribbles per game within the Watford team (as per WhoScored).

Sarr was instrumental in Watford’s promotion last campaign to the Premier League, scoring 13 goals and registering 10 assists in 39 Championship games. However, he has failed to have a similar impact this term, as his six goal contributions have not been enough to help his side, who currently sit in the bottom three, three points from safety, having played two games more than Everton, who sit in 17th.

Although he hasn’t shown consistently what he can do this campaign, his immense form last term was enough to prove that he deserves to be playing in the top flight, and if he was to join Newcastle, then his pace and trickery would make a fierce attack alongside the talented Saint-Maximin.

And, he even shares an agent with Ryan Fraser, so maybe he can put a good word in.
