Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo will ‘give it a crack’ next season with new manager Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

It was recently announced that current Ajax boss Ten Hag will leave the club at the end of the season and join the Red Devils. Ajax are on course to win the Eredivisie this season, and he will be hoping to bring similar success to the Premier League with Manchester United next campaign.

Ronaldo re-signed for Manchester United in the summer and is the club’s top scorer this season with 16 Premier League goals in 27 games.

Amid uncertainty around his future, Jones claimed to GiveMeSport that Ronaldo may opt to stay at the club for another year under the new manager.

He said: “Ronaldo has always adapted to the game; he’s always grown with however the game was changing.

“And one of those factors is that managers change, managers are younger, and managers have different levels of experience as a player and as a coach.

“But for all we know, this guy might be the next best thing in world football, so I’m sure that Ronaldo will at least give it a crack.”

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments…

Interestingly, it has been claimed that Ten Hag wants Ronaldo to leave Man United, so this claim from Jones comes as quite a big surprise and twist.

Ten Hag is likely to have a big task on his hands next season to attempt to turn the poor form of the club around, so you would think he would rather keep one of United’s key performers at the club in the summer, so the claims from Spanish outlet Marca certainly seem strange.

Ronaldo, who is valued at £31.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), has somewhat saved Manchester United at times this season, and leads the line in terms of stats in the Premier League for his side. He has the second-highest average player rating (7.25), the most goal contributions (19) and created the second-highest number of big chances (7), as per SofaScore.

Ronaldo still has another year on his contract, so he may opt to see out his current deal, and then if things have improved, he could sign an extension.
