Newcastle United fans will be furious to find out who the VAR official is for their game this weekend.

The Geordie faithful have once again sold out St James’ Park as they look to push their team onto a fifth win in a row and a seventh at home, while also extending their unbeaten home run in 2022, however, that will be very difficult to maintain when they face Liverpool at the weekend.

Will Newcastle get a good result vs Liverpool?

Eddie Howe will know that coming up against the Reds, who are chasing the title and have not lost in the Premier League this calendar year, will be one of the toughest tasks this season, but the Magpies will likely be up for causing an upset and disturbing the title race.

However, some fans may think this could be an even tougher task, with journalist Dominic Scurr mentioning that Mike Dean will be the VAR official – the same referee who allowed Liverpool to score at Anfield against the Magpies earlier this season, despite a player being down in the box with a head injury.

TIF Thoughts on Mike Dean as VAR official…

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

While many Newcastle fans will have been thinking realistically about how low their chances are of taking anything against Liverpool, after their recent run of stunning form, they can play with the shackles well and truly off and not have any pressure on them to pick up a result.

Mike Dean is a fan of Tranmere Rovers, a team based in Merseyside, so some conspiracy theorists may think he will favour Liverpool on Saturday afternoon, and after the showing he put on at Anfield in the reverse fixture, those fears may have only increased after the goal he allowed and failing to give a seemingly blatant penalty that went unnoticed.

Although we don’t believe Dean will be biased when he takes charge in the VAR room, there may well be some anxiety within the Toon fanbase given his previous in this fixture.
