Newcastle United secured a dramatic last-gasp victory on Sunday afternoon, leaving it late to down Leicester City at St James’ Park.

The visitors took the lead when Ademola Lookman found the back of the net after 19 minutes, thankfully for Eddie Howe’s side, Bruno Guimaraes was on hand to level things up just 11 minutes later.

Will PIF back Howe this summer?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

It then looked like both sides would have to settle for a point a piece, but up steps Guimaraes again to bag his brace in the 95th minute, heading home to steal all three points for the Magpies with what is the latest winning Premier League goal on record for Newcastle.

Although the result was huge, not everyone shone in black and white, with Chris Wood not having his best day. The 30-year-old was withdrawn after 69-minutes in what was an underwhelming display.

The New Zealand international netted the winner in the game prior to Sunday’s win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, however, he was unable to continue from where he left off at St. James’ Park.

In the player ratings, Dominic Scurr, writing for the Shields Gazette awarded the forward 6/10, justifying it with: “Won a couple of important headers to keep Newcastle attacks alive but failed to threaten in front of goal.”

TIF thoughts on Scurr’s rating…

It certainly appears Wood was largely ineffective in the game, even looking at just the stats it doesn’t look the best for him with a pitiful passing accuracy of just 42% (5/12).

He only had 16 touches of the ball according to SofaScore, losing possession eight times, that’s half of his touches resulting in him losing the ball.

How many seasons did Siem de Jong spend on Tyneside?

He was the joint lowest rated player on the website for Newcastle out of their starters, only attempting one shot all game, which was off target. All in all, it was a day to forget for Wood.
