Journalist Conor McGilligan has reacted with much excitement after hearing Leeds United could be set for a huge relegation boost.

With just seven games left to play this season, the Whites are not quite out of the woods just yet and could still get pulled into the bottom three.

Indeed, they sit in 16th place in the league and are nine points above Burnley, who are 18th. However, Sean Dyche’s men have played three fewer matches, so would go level on points if they were to win all their games in hand.

Fortunately though, for Leeds, it was recently reported LancsLive that key Burnley defender Ben Mee looks set to miss the club’s upcoming game against Everton with injury and is not yet in full training.

A delighted McGilligan took to Twitter to react to the news, adding that the Clarets’ form is much worse with their captain not on the pitch.

He wrote: “This is big.

“Burnley’s captain not available for the game against Everton/potentially for Norwich at the weekend.

“Burnley have conceded 10 goals in 4 games after he was taken off in the 40th minute vs Leicester.

“Three games previous when he was playing (7/9 points).”

TIF Thoughts on Burnley and Leeds…

That game against Everton for Burnley should be huge for both sets of players. Indeed, the Toffees only find themselves three points above Watford in the relegation zone. If they lose it, the Clarets will be just one point behind Frank Lampard and co.

Whatever the result, Leeds should be set to win in a manner of their own. After all, either way, one of their key relegation rivals will be dropping points, and they would have played one of their games in hand.

Interestingly enough, judging from McGilligan’s comments, it seems he would prefer Burnley to lose that game and keep their distance from Leeds. He later backed this up by tweeting underneath his initial post: “Cutting Burnley off is the priority for me.”

Only time will tell just how much of an impact Mee’s injury has on things.
