Journalist Michael Bridge has claimed that unless things change dramatically for Dele Alli at Everton, he will continue to be left out of the side.

Alli signed for Everton from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee that could reach up to £40m if he achieves certain goals in a Toffees shirt. He has made just seven appearances for Everton in the Premier League since he signed for the club, and all have come from the bench.

Frank Lampard was hoping that he could revitalise the former England international’s career and help his side turn around their bad form, but the deal has somewhat failed for both parties so far.

Whilst speaking to GiveMeSport, Bridge highlighted just how poor Alli has been since making the switch to Goodison Park considering how good he was in the past for Spurs.

Speaking before the Toffees’ draw against Leicester City, the Sky Sports reporter said: “He looked like a 40-year-old running around when I saw him a few weeks ago. It’s really worrying. Unless things change dramatically, it looks like Lampard is just not relying on him, not calling on him.

“When they’re losing, he’s not even coming on, not even a last-minute header. Can you imagine what Dele used to be good at back in the day? Sticking his head in the box.”

TIF Thoughts on Michael Bridge’s comments…

Alli’s first season in the Premier League with Spurs was an exciting one when he featured 33 times and scored 10 goals in the 2015/16 campaign. He then followed that up with an 18-goal haul in the following league season at just 21 years old, but he has failed to live up to expectations since.

He was struggling to get game time in the Spurs side this season, so was sold to Everton where there were hopes that he could regain some of his previous form, but he has arguably seen a further drop-off and hasn’t started a league game since he arrived in Merseyside.

Alli’s form has come alongside Everton’s poor displays, which means that they are currently just four points above the drop zone.
