Crystal Palace’s young star Michael Olise could face another weekend out due to a reoccurring injury according to injury specialist Ben Dinnery.

During the South London outfit’s recent 1-0 loss to Newcastle, the French winger was taken off in the 40th minute after aggravating a previous injury which kept he sustained while on international duty and which kept him out of the starting line-up for Palace’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.

An easy one to start with, which player was booked after pushing Bentancur to the ground?

This loss has left them 14th in the league, nine points off the last relegation spot but only three points off a top ten finish with six games left to go, leaving them with a lot to play for during the run-in. The Eagles have experienced an impressive maiden campaign under new boss Patrick Vieira but the injury to Olise, who has shone for them this season, will undoubtedly hurt their chances for a top ten finish.

The aggregation of the foot injury against Newcastle is yet to be explained in full by Vieira but injury expert, Dinnery, believes the setback could leave him questionable for Monday’s game at home to Leeds.

Speaking on his Premier FPL Injuries YouTube channel, Dinnery said, “Michael Olise… he was withdrawn in and around that 40th-minute mark. Now Patrick Vieira referenced an ongoing or persistent foot problem. Now initially the winger had picked that up playing for the French under 21s and looked to be over that. But unfortunately, he may have suffered a little bit of a reinjury or recurrence, a setback in his availability comes into question this weekend.”

TIF Thoughts on Olise…

Olise has enjoyed a breakout season under Vieira and looks to be one of the most exciting young players in the Premier League so far this season. He endured a slow start at Palace, mainly appearing as a substitute during the beginning of the season but since January, he has made an impact as a starting figure both in the league and the FA Cup.

The French international has impacted the team greatly without a lot of game time behind him. With only 1,373 minutes in the league and FA Cup, Olise has racked up an impressive four goals and eight assists (Transfermarkt) while averaging 0.7 shots, 0.8 key passes, one dribble, and one long ball per game with 82.4 pass accuracy on 20.7 average passes per game. There is still a long way to go for the 20-year-old to go in world football but his impressive start will make him a shoo-in for the permanent starting position next season at Palace. Alongside club veteran Wilfried Zaha, Olise will continue to grow into a star player and could find himself playing for a European giant within the next few seasons if he continues his development.
