Steven Gerrard is a big fan of midfielder Kalvin Phillips, amid rumours linking him with a potential move to Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who was speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel regarding the future of the Leeds United ace.

Would you like Phillips at Villa Park?

Phillips’ future has come into question in recent months, with West Ham United also believed to have shown an interest in the 26-year-old.

It has been a difficult campaign for the Englishman, with injury leaving him sidelined for a large proportion of the 2021/22 campaign.

The midfielder made his return to action at the weekend with an appearance from the bench in the draw against Southampton, and Romano believes he still has serious interest coming from Villa Park.

He said: “He’s really appreciated by Steven Gerrard – this is true. He’s always been a player appreciated by Gerrard and he’s convinced that he could be perfect for Villa.

“Leeds have a project, they have a serious project, Jesse Marsch is doing very good. So in case they will stay in the Premier League, I’m not sure that negotiating with Leeds is going to be an easy one.”

TIF Thoughts on Phillips’ future…

The obvious factor regarding Phillips’ future will be over whether the Whites are able to retain their spot in the Premier League, with Leeds still in the relegation scrap.

However, with Marcelo Bielsa no longer at Leeds, could the 26-year-old look to Gerrard being the right man to continue his development as a midfielder?

Phillips was awarded the England Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season, and with Gerrard’s influence, we do wonder whether he may view it as a great opportunity to progress his game.
